While Looking for Juliet in Verona, Yara Shahidi found San Zeno

In 2019 Yara Shahidi travelled to Verona for the unveiling of the 2020 edition of the prestigious Pirelli Calendar. Looking back at that experience with a short video from her Unguided series on IGTV, Shahidi shows us around the city and talks about Romeo, Juliet, Shakespeare and San Zeno, the Black Patron Saint and Bishop of Verona.
With this year’s theme ‘Looking for Juliet’, photographer Paolo Roversi tapped into the “Juliet that exists in every woman” by capturing the emotions and expressions of an incredible cast – Claire Foy, Mia Goth, Chris Lee, Indya Moore, Rosalia, Stella Roversi, Kristen Stewart, Emma Watson and Yara Shahidi. The resulting portraits represent the many faces of “Juliet”, showing that there are “Juliets” everywhere, but each individual interpretation helps take this message a step further, showing us a world in which it’s possible to be a non-binary black Juliet, or even be both Romeo and Juliet all at once.
