“The Old Guard” releases the Incurable Romantic scene

Luca Marinelli and Marwan Kenzari star in an exclusive clip from “The Old Guard” that premiered with OUT magazine, in which their two main characters are queer, incurably romantic and unapologetic.
The Old Guard is a new Netflix action movie about a group of immortal veteran soldiers who have been around for thousands of years, mercenaries who keep a low profile while traveling the world to fight and protect it. The story follows Andy (Charlize Theron), Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), Joe (Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Luca Marinelli) as they discover and recruit Nile (Kiki Layne), a young soldier who resuscitated from the dead, while on a mission. The mission proves to be a setup by someone who knows about their existence and wants to know the secret to their immortality.
A new clip that premiered with OUT magazine puts a spotlight on Joe and Nicky. While both are held captive, Joe is being mocked for caring and checking on Nicky and the scene focuses on his response to one of the captors. This snippet reveals that Joe and Nicky are a couple, proud and unbothered by what the captors think. These two characters met as enemies during the First Crusade and when they discovered to be immortal after failed attempts to kill each other, their relationship turned into romance.
In the beginning of the clip, Joe speaks to Nicky in Italian saying “Hanno usato del gas” (They used gas) and hopefully these characters will speak more Italian throughout the movie.
Based on the 2017 graphic novel created by writer Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez, the movie directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood will be on Netflix July 10th.
